ATAMA Gold Weave Kimono (Blue)

ATAMA Gold Weave Kimono (Blue)

You do Jiu Jitsu? Then you are well aware that the name ATAMA is synonymous with Brazilian Jiu Jitsu . This is a company that has been around for a long time and has had plenty of time to perfect the Art of the Jiu Jitsu Kimono. Have they done it? Keep reading to find out...

Briefing

The Gold Weave Kimono is one of the more common and sturdier WEAVE available in Jiu Jitsu Gi's.  Please keep in mind that the Kimono I am reviewing I have had a long time, atleast 7 years. So if it looks faded and worn in the pictures you know why.

Sizing and Fit

Height

Weight

Size

5'3 - 5'7 110 - 145 A1
5'6 - 5'11 145 - 175 A2
5'9 - 6'1 175 - 210 A3
6'2 - 6'5 210 - 255 A4
6'0 - 6'6 255 - 305 A5
6'4 + 305 + A6

I am 6' Tall and around 180lbs  and the A3 fits me perfectly.  This is the fit that I compare all other gi's to because It fits so well.  I also really enjoy the length of the skirt and height of the pants.

Design / Aesthetics

The Design and Aesthetics of this Gi take the traditional minimalist approach and works well with their style and branding.  This Gi happens to be an older model so i am not sure if they are still built the same, however their Gold weave design appears to be different on their website.

Jacket

Jacket

The Jacket is made from 2 Different Materials.  The top Half is an durable Gold Weave Fabric while the bottom half is a Diamond Pattern Skirt.  rice pattern

I have never had a problem with tearing or seperation between the Bottom and Top portion of the Gi.  I have read others with this issue but I guess I got lucky.

collar

This Collar is super thick and beautifully rounded.  As you can see there is only slight tearing/wear towards the back of collar.

sleave

Not to much embellishment on this Gi which I personally LIKE.  Call me old fashion but I dont like my gi's with Dice and Dragons on them.  As Michael Scott told Dwight Schrute "K.I.S.S  Keep It Simple Stupid!"

Liningseam

armpit

As you can see the Kimono Jacket is reinforced in all the proper places with more than enough protection from tearing.

The Pants

pants

The Pants are pretty standard, Traditional flat cotton drawstring, reinforced padding.  My Pants are pretty worn as you can see.

Performance

Ok so here are a few things I love performance wise regarding this Gi.  Here are a few reasons I really enjoy training with this Gi.

  1. The bottom portion of the gi is easier to use when going for lower lapel chokes ie: Jacare Choke etc.
  2. The thickness of the lapel makes it tough for opponents to grip.
  3. Looking to get in shape?  You will Sweat in this Gi!
  4. It has lasted close to close to 7 years of training, washing, and drying multiple times per week and is still fully functional.
Price: From $191.99 to $227.99 (Expensive but for a Kimono that will last you 6-7 Years it is worth every penny!

Conclusion

This Gi is simply fantastic, looks great, fits great and has been in my rotation forever and will continue to stay there until it turns to dust.  I highly recommend the Atama Gold Weave Kimono and will most likely pick up another one.  This Kimono makes it all the way to Black Belt!
