Roots of Fight - Gracie vs Kimura Tee
A classic match-up of epic proportions. This is one of the most historical matches in BJJ History. Does Roots of Fight pay proper homage? Read more to find out!
Description
Roots of Fight Describes this shirt as "Paying tribute to the epic grappling match between Gracie family patriarch and father of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Helio Gracie and legendary Japanese judoka Masahiko Kimura on October 23rd 1951. The shirt is an off-white, premium vintage tri-blend T. Art work channels the spirit of what a 'fight T' from the epic bout would have looked like."
Size / Fit
This shirt fits quite nicely, in fact I wish all of my shirts fit like this. The Gracie vs Kimura Tee offers a Vintage fit - Slim body / relaxed collar. Not to much detail to go into but if you like a baggier tee you better size up. I am a large and as you can see from the images it is a nice slim fit.
Design
The design of this shirt is what drew me to it initially. I love the vintage style of this shirt. It reminds me of old school fight posters. I am not exactly sure of the method of which the graphics were placed but I believe the process may be called dye sublimation as opposed to a screen print. This leaves the shirt quite breathable and comfortable. Everything down to the labeling was thought out and designed well. Take a look!
Performance / wear
Ok so here is where the shirt lacks in my opinion. You can see from this picture just how see through this shirt is. Its a fantastic looking shirt, probably my favorite design that i've seen so far but its just not flattering to have my nipples showing through next to Helio and Kimura's heads. I wish that Roots of Fight would address this in their next batch of shirts not only for the transparency but the overall lasting quality of the shirt. The fabric is extremely comfortable however if it gets snagged on something in the slightest, say goodbye!
CONCLUSION
This is an awesome looking shirt with quality construction. If a little transparency doesn't bother you then the price tag may unfortunately. I rarely spend more than $20 on a t-shirt and with this shirt retailing on RootsofFight.com for $39 US it may be a bit rich for some peoples blood. Overall I think looking past the price and just looking at the quality and design of the shirt, the Gracie vs Kimura T makes it all the way to brown belt. An awesome addition to any Jiu Jitsu or Judoka fighters collection!
